The town of Nain is located at the western edge of the
desert ninety miles east of Isfahan. The rugs from here are among the
finest woven in Iran, Which is a weave that is comparable to the most
excellent of the antique carpets. The making of hand-knotted rugs in
Nain began only in the 1930’s. The city of Nain for many generations
produced a fine quality of hand-made wool cloth, which was used by
Persians to make their fine clothes. But when Persians began to wear
European clothes the cloth industry was diminished, so the people in
Nain turned to rug weaving just before World War I
